Stem Cell Research

Stem cell research is a complex and very dynamic field, making it important for researchers, as well as interested patients and families, to stay up to date on current advances and possibilities. Once developed and controlled, adult stem cells are expected to provide important therapies that will complement today’s drug therapies. Furthermore, adult stem cells may have the ability to repair and potentially reverse heart disease, diabetes, stroke and spinal cord injury, and even diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Adult stem cells are easily obtainable and plentiful, and patients can potentially use their own stem cells for treatment and therapy. Adult stem cell research has resulted in multiple successful therapies that are currently in use in medical practice.

Advancing Awareness. Accelerating Research. Improving Lives.

In late 2007, a group from America’s heartland assembled to form The Cell Therapy Foundation. The Cell Therapy Foundation is dedicated to advancing the cause of Adult Stem Cell Research by education and enablement because of the promise this research holds in improving global health while giving hope to those with debilitating diseases including, cancer, heart disease, atherosclerosis, stroke, neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson’s Disease, and numerous others.

Our vision is to allow the Cell Therapy Foundation to serve as a premier source for the advancement of adult stem cell awareness, acceleration and development of useful research and therapies which will result in the global improvement of public health.

Adult stem cell research is important to allow the development of therapies that could rescue, repair and possibly even rebuild tissues and organs injured from disease. Once developed and controlled, adult stem cells are expected to provide important therapies that will complement today’s drug therapies, treating diseases that are addressed by these therapies as well as others without effective treatment at present. Unlike embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells are easily obtainable and plentiful, and patients can use their own stem cells for treatment and therapy. Research from adult stem cells has already resulted in multiple successful therapies that are currently in use in medical practice especially for cancers and blood diseases; and this field is years ahead of embryonic stem cell research in clinical applications.

Many people are not aware of the difference between adult stem cell research and the more controversial research using embryonic cells. Public discussions have focused much attention on the areas of great controversy that involve embryonic stem cells, which creates much confusion in the public arena. With respect to adult stem cells, the limited awareness of pre-clinical research being conducted and advances being made, as well as the minimal public knowledge of clinical trials ongoing is perpetuated by the absence of accessible reliable sources for informational exchange particular to adult stem cells. This gap in information availability greatly limits patient awareness and access to clinical trials that are ongoing in this area.

The Cell Therapy Foundation exists to foster public awareness, scientist communication, and critical support of adult stem cell research leading to the discovery and practice of new therapies as soon as possible.

Get Involved

You can get involved by providing ongoing support to help connect researchers, provide funding for national patient clinical trial recruitment and provide for expansion, continuation and development of future programs.

ASCRN

The Adult Stem Cell Research (ASCR) Network is an Internet-based project of The Cell Therapy Foundation designed to be a well-maintained and reliable source of information for the public regarding adult stem cell research, as well as to be a community of practice and collaboration among fellow researchers.

Success Stories

“I hope that someday when I see an older person having trouble with their leg(s), faced with the same problem I had, they have this revolutionary therapy available for them because of the chance I took as a clinical trial patient.”
